Mercedes "committed" to Grosjean test

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has confirmed the team is "committed" to ensuring Romain Grosjean receives his long-awaited test.

The Swiss-French driver's F1 career ended two races earlier than had been planned after his horrific crash at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, where he miraculously escaped from the burning wreckage of his halved Haas.

Grosjean and Wolff engaged in dialogue afterwards and it was confirmed he would be given a test in a Mercedes, later announced to be at the French Grand Prix last season.

But when the calendar was adjusted due to the strains of the global Covid-19 pandemic and the Paul Ricard date was moved, the new schedule clashed with Grosjean's IndyCar commitments.

Asked if the test was still slated given the delay, Wolff confirmed: "The test is going to happen for sure. We are committed to it.

"We haven't got a date yet for what he can do and what we can do but it is going to happen.

"When I give my word, I give my word."

Grosjean is enjoying life in the United States having been signed by the front-running Andretti Autosport outfit for the current season.

The former GP2 champion clinched his fourth podium in IndyCar at Long Beach last time out and has committed himself to a full season, including ovals and the Indianapolis 500.
