Ferrari modifications "more than upgrades" - Sainz

Ferrari looks set to contend for race wins this year

Carlos Sainz has revealed Ferrari added "more than upgrades" to the F1-75 at the second pre-season test in Bahrain in an attempt to solve F1's new porpoising problem.

Teams were blindsided by the phenomenon in the first test in Barcelona, with cars bumping and bouncing down straights as aerodynamic loading and unloading repeats when underfloor airflow stalls.

The Scuderia showed promising pace in both tests and will arrive at the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend knowing it is close to Red Bull in terms of being favourites for victory.

The team added a raft of upgrades in Bahrain to try and build on the data gathered in Barcelona to optimise the F1-75's package for next weekend.

Addressing the additions, Sainz said: “For us, the main priority is to solve the issues that we have with the bouncing, just to make the car a bit more consistent, a bit more driveable, a bit more comfortable for the driver.

“And obviously, you have seen that we’ve brought quite a few upgrades, let’s call them more than upgrades.

"They are modifications to the floor to see if we can reduce the porpoising without affecting too much the performance.

“Some are working, most of them are going in the right direction which shows the team is working well and already a huge effort in a matter of weeks of days to create new alterations to the floor to have them ready for here in just seven days.”
