Verstappen questions defending F1 champion pressure
Max Verstappen has insisted there is no reason for him to "suddenly be different" after winning his maiden F1 title last year.
The Red Bull driver emerged triumphant following one of the closest, most intense title battles in the sport's history by winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on the final lap, denying rival Lewis Hamilton a record-breaking eighth championship.
Verstappen will aim to continue his form into F1's new era which sees regulations dramatically altered in an attempt to create a fairer, more exciting spectacle.
Asked after Red Bull launched the RB18's livery if he felt more pressure as defending champion, the Dutchman replied: "No, I just do what I do all the time. There is no reason to suddenly be different.
"Of course, as a driver you have to get used to the new regulations, it's not like you just jumped in and it's an upgrade from last year.
"So that is going to be the biggest adaptation but the rest, it's pretty straightforward."
With pre-season testing getting underway in Barcelona on February 23, addressing what he is anticipating most about the upcoming campaign, Verstappen said: "Well, a lot is unknown about the car.
"Personally, I feel good. What is important is you prepare yourself in the best way possible physically.
"But in terms of the car, you don't know, so that's why I'm curious to see how the car behaves on track."
