FIA must 'admit mistakes' and add structure to correct errors - Seidl
McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl has stated the FIA must be prepared to "admit" to mistakes made and be prepared to "correct these mistakes" ahead of a meeting of the F1 Commission on Monday.
Facing the media at the launch of the McLaren MCL36, Lando Norris offered FIA race director Michael Masi his "support" and labelled the series of events as a 'human mistake'.
Speaking to media including GPFans, Seidl explained: "We need to accept mistakes can happen [not only] on the team side but also on FIA side [and] mistakes can happen again.
"For me, due to this, it's very important as well that we also discuss a mechanism where, if we're ever in a position that if mistakes happen, you actually raise your hand and admit them.
"You maybe have a discipline in place in order to correct these mistakes or correct the consequences that such mistakes or controversies could have.
"I think that is as important as trying to avoid similar controversy in the first place."
F1 teams "as guilty" as the FIA for complex regulations
Unlike other sports where teams have little to no say in regulatory changes, F1 teams are directly involved in this process.
It is through the involvement of the teams that the 'let them race' principle was introduced and that track limits are often moved and adjusted across a grand prix weekend.
"One aspect I want to mention as well, the beauty of this sport is also not just on the team side, but also on the FIA side when it comes to the execution of races, it's still a unique sport and we shouldn't forget that," explained Seidl.
"We are as guilty, as well as the FIA, in terms of how the regulations are at the moment because we were part of creating the regulations.
