Ferrari celebrate milestone with new car name

Ferrari has revealed the name of its 2022 contender ahead of the February 17 launch date.

The Scuderia was the second team to announce the timing of the launch of its all-new car ahead of the season, with a new-look formula potentially set to shake up F1's pecking order.

The new car will be called the F1-75 in a nod to the Italian manufacturer's 75th anniversary celebrations this year after Enzo Ferrari fired up the engine of the 125S for the first time on March 12, 1947.

The name change breaks a run of Ferrari F1 cars taking a moniker beginning with the 'SF' initials.

“Formula 1, with its spirit of competition and innovation, has always been a fundamental part of Ferrari, driving the technological development of our road cars,” said Ferrari chairman John Elkann.

“This year, as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our first production car leaving the factory, we honour that spirit by naming our 2022 F1 challenger the Ferrari F1-75.”
