Aston Martin 'hitting targets' for 2022 success

Otmar Szafnauer has claimed Aston Martin is currently hitting its targets ahead of the new F1 season in 2022.

In its former guise as Racing Point, the team enjoyed a strong 2020 as it finished fourth in the constructors' championship, missing out on third by just eight points to McLaren.

Following its revamp to Aston Martin last winter, it slumped to a lowly seventh this year due to a major regulation change that affected low-rake cars.

That forced the team to quickly turn its attention to 2022 and the major new rules regarding aerodynamics.

Szafnauer is confident Aston Martin is on the right track, although mindful of the fact he has no idea as to how the other nine F1 teams have fared so far.

“Internally, we've hit the targets we've set and we still continue to make progress every week," said Szafnauer in an interview with GPFans.

"We're happy with the progress that we've made, but I don't know with the others and it's really hard to try to eke out any competitor information.

"Everyone's tight-lipped, as we are too. We don't say anything apart from we're hitting our targets, but the key is what target did you set? That's the bit we don't tell.”
