McLaren strongly denies "wholly inaccurate" Audi sale report

The McLaren Group has described a report suggesting it has been sold to Audi as "wholly inaccurate".

The article suggested the entire group had been taken over by the German manufacturer in a move that would have supposedly secured the financial future of McLaren.

The deal was said to have included the F1 team, with Audi known to be interested with a move into the sport given its part in discussions over the new breed of power unit set for introduction in 2026.

The reports have been strongly denied by McLaren, with a statement reading: "McLaren Group is aware of a news media report stating it has been sold to Audi.

"This is wholly inaccurate and McLaren is seeking to have the story removed.

"McLaren’s technology strategy has always involved ongoing discussions and collaboration with relevant partners and suppliers, including other carmakers, however, there has been no change in the ownership structure of the McLaren Group."

An Audi spokesperson told Reuters: "As part of our strategic considerations, we are constantly looking at various cooperation ideas."
