Hamilton concerned he will again be "in trouble" in Brazil

Lewis Hamilton has expressed concern he will be "in trouble" if Max Verstappen carries his speed in Mexico into this weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Verstappen delivered a dominant win at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, beating Hamilton by 16.5secs to open up a 19-point cushion over his F1 title rival with four races remaining.

Although there is a maximum of 107 points up for grabs, Mercedes driver Hamilton faces the prospect of leaving Brazil on Sunday a race win adrift in terms of points if Verstappen repeats his form from the Mexico City Grand Prix.

"There are still four races," said Hamilton. "Obviously, 19 points is a lot of points. He [Verstappen] has had a lot of wins this year.

"With their superior speed [in Mexico], if they were to carry that into the next ones then we may be in trouble - or we will be in trouble.

"I don’t know if they’ll be using that huge wing [in Brazil] they had on [in Mexico]. We will find out when we get there but I hope we’re closer."

Hamilton was referring to the fact the cars of Verstappen and team-mate Sergio Perez sported a maximum-downforce rear wing that had the edge over the one employed by Mercedes.

Hamilton concedes he is now heading into territory where he feels "I need to be winning every race".

He added: "We need those extra points, not to lose those points, to try and regain [the lead].

"That was the goal going into the last race and the race before that and before that and in Mexico."

Airing his major worry, the seven-time champion added: "You know, they’re just too quick.

"We're giving it absolutely everything we’ve got but unfortunately it’s not enough at the moment to compete with them."
