Horner rues "bad luck" in consecutive "brutal" weekends

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has conceded recent incidents will 'certainly not help' the team in a budget-cap scenario.

This year, F1 teams have been tasked with simultaneously developing machinery for both the current season and the radically new aerodynamic regulations of 2022.

Making the task harder is the $145million cost cap imposed for the first time this year.

After sustaining considerable damage on both cars at Silverstone and the Hungaroring, Horner reflected: "It's certainly not going to help.

"We've a shedload of accident damage, and potentially two engines that we've lost due to the result of actions of other drivers.

"So very frustrating but you know what, we're within the points difference of a first and second place as we go into the summer break.

"We've had some huge bad luck the last couple of races. It's been pretty brutal in damage, parts and engines, but we'll brush ourselves down and we'll come out fighting for the second half of this championship."

After taking the lead in both the constructors' and drivers' standings at Monaco, Red Bull has again dropped behind Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.

With the margins small, however, Horner expects the picture to change during the second half of the season.

"Obviously, it's been a tough couple of weeks but things can turn around very quickly as you've seen," he explained.

"There's a long way to go in this championship."
