Ferrari has "progressed most" in 2021 - Binotto

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto is proud of the progress made by the Scuderia as it continues to recover from a 40-year low.

Ferrari endured a tough 2020 but has hit back quickly this year, emerging as McLaren's chief competitor in the fight for third behind championship protagonists Mercedes and Red Bull.

After 12 races last term, Ferrari had just 93 points to its name compared to 163 from 11 races this season.

"Overall, if you look at the first half of the season we are pretty happy, we are progressing, the way we progressed last year," said Binotto.

"We are the team that relative to last year has scored more points, that has progressed most overall.

"It's showing that we are going in the right direction and working well together."

After Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel's was disqualified from the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari is ahead of McLaren on countback of second-place finishes after Carlos Sainz was promoted to the podium.

Binotto is aware the intensity of battle increases the need to regather energy over the shutdown period.

"The summer break is important to get ready for a very intense second half of the season," said Binotto.

"We need to make sure we are prepared and ready for it."
