Verstappen and Alonso reveal ‘dream team’ ambitions
Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen have revealed they would both like to join forces and race together in the future.
Two-time F1 champion Alonso has previously tried to find a way in at Red Bull in F1 but while he conceded that is now “probably” no longer possible, he said he would be keen to line up with Verstappen in another formula.
Alonso said: “Probably, we still have an opportunity in the future, maybe not in F1, honestly, because I don’t think that is a possibility, but, yes, in the future who knows.
“I think both of us love racing and endurance racing, Le Mans, so it would be nice one day to share a team.”
Alonso brings winning Le Mans experience
Alonso spent his two years away from F1 trying out different forms of motorsport, competing in the World Endurance Championship, the Indianapolis 500 and the Dakar Rally and it is clear he is keen to continue racing well beyond his time in F1.
Verstappen is now the favourite to win his first F1 title this season and most likely has far longer to go at the top tier of the sport.
He accepted Alonso’s offering, however and suggested he too would be keen to compete together in the future.
“It would have been probably exciting to be in one team together with him [in F1], but like he says there are also a lot of opportunities outside F1 later on,” said Verstappen. “So who knows, it would be quite cool I think.”
