Steiner criticises F1 for 'focusing too much' on track-limits furore
Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has dismissed suggestions F1's continued track-limit furore is confusing and believes too much focus is given to the topic.
The Spanish Grand Prix offered respite from the constant debate around the subject of circuit boundaries after high-profile incidents in the opening three rounds of the year, although FIA race director Michael Masi did alter his event notes before a car had even turned a wheel in Barcelona.
Discussions about a solution to the issue, however, will no doubt continue but Steiner feels the subject is being over-played.
"I wouldn't say it is confusing," said Steiner. "There is too much talk about track limits of late. That is my opinion.
"We are focusing too much on track limits, there is always a drama about track limits, was he in or was he out? Why did he get a penalty? Why didn't he get one?
"I guess race control is pretty busy with the track limits as well because there is just too much talk about it. It should be pretty clear what is in and what is out."
A task force is being drawn up to get to the bottom of the problem but Steiner insisted there would be no easy fix in the short term.
"We always talk but these are meetings behind closed doors," he added. "The solutions are not easy to find and work needs to be done to find solutions.
"Obviously, nobody is happy with how it works at the moment. The solution is not as easy otherwise something would have been done.
"There is work going on to try to find a solution and to pick the best one because there is more than one solution to this but what is the best one for everything? The most important thing is safety for the drivers."
