Silverstone in 10,000-ticket giveaway to NHS and key workers
Silverstone is to give away 10,000 tickets to NHS and key workers for its trio of major summer events - the British Grand Prix, Moto GP and The Classic.
The Northamptonshire venue is partnering with Blue Light Tickets, a sister company of the Blue Light Card discount scheme that rewards workers in the NHS, emergency services, armed forces and social care sectors.
By way of a thank you for the work conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic, a set amount of tickets are available for each day of the three events.
For the British GP that runs from July 16-18 and MotoGP that is on August 27-29, there are 2,200 tickets available on Friday, 1,000 for Saturday and 300 on Sunday. For The Classic, the allocation is 2,000 on Friday, July 30, and 1,000 on Sunday, August 1.
Due to the fact there are two million Blue Light Card holders, a ballot is being held to ensure even and fair distribution.
Silverstone managing director Stuart Pringle said: “Working with Blue Light Card gives us the reassurance that our tickets will reach those we are all so indebted to and we hope as many as possible can join us this summer to experience live motorsport, something we have all missed over the past 12 months. “The last year has been a challenge for everyone but particularly for those working on the frontline, putting their lives at risk, to keep our country and population safe under very difficult circumstances.
"I hope that this gesture goes some way to demonstrating to this community that their work is very much appreciated.”
The ballot for each event is now open, with closing dates of May 25 for F1, June 27 for The Classic and July 25 for MotoGP.
