Vettel has contract 'offers from Renault and McLaren' - reports
Sebastian Vettel is out of contract with Ferrari at the end of the 2020 season, but where will the German be racing in 2021?
Ferrari has so far remained tight-lipped over the speculation surrounding the future of Vettel.
According to Leo Turrini, the respected Italian journalist has told Sky Italia that Vettel has been asked to decide by the end of June whether he wants to remain with Ferrari.
“Scuderia Ferrari offered a contract renewal to Sebastian Vettel for one year, but they asked him to answer before the end of June, so before the start of the new championship," said Turrini.
“Vettel’s doubts come from the fact that he is not sure that there won’t be a difference in driver management.
“We have to consider that Charles Leclerc has a contract until 2024."
Turrini claims that Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri has told him of the situation. He added: "It’s impossible to go to a four-time world champion and tell him to be the wingman of someone who won two races.”
Ferrari is understood to be admirers of both Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz.
The Italian also revealed that Renault and McLaren have offered deals to Vettel, with both likely to include provision for Ricciardo or Sainz to be a part of a driver swap.
“I know that Vettel has some contract offers from Renault and McLaren, but I don’t know how much he is interested in them," said Turrini. "We will have to see what Seb will answer."
