Mercedes punished by FIA for fuel error on Hamilton's car

Mercedes have been fined €5,000 after the fuel in Lewis Hamilton's car was found to be cooler than permitted ahead of free practice one at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Fuel is not permitted to be cooled to 10 degrees centigrade below the ambient temperature.

The fuel put into Hamilton's car was found to be "was more than eleven degrees centigrade below the ambient temperature recorded by the FIA appointed weather service provider one hour before the first practice session."

The stewards' report read: "The team representative acknowledged that the temperature was below that required under the Technical Regulations due to an error in setting the temperature.

"Given that this infringement occurred during Practice 1, we impose the fine set out above."

Hamilton ran third fastest in FP1, behind Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, albeit on harder tyres than his rivals.
