Hamilton updates on illness after under-weather Hockenheim

Lewis Hamilton hopes to hit peak fitness by the time the Hungarian Grand Prix gets under way, having battled illness throughout the German GP weekend.

After securing pole position at Hockenheim, Hamilton revealed that Mercedes' reserve driver Esteban Ocon had been prepared to stand in as he was feeling so unwell.

Things went from good, to bad, to worse during the German race for Hamilton, having led the race through its first half.

A spin into the barriers wiped off half of his front wing, and a penalty taken for his illegal pit entry sent him tumbling down the order, although Hamilton still took two points to extend his championship lead.

The five-time world champion said he would be clearing his schedule ahead of the Budapest weekend in a bid to regain his strength.

And it seems Hamilton's confidence is returning as he looks for a seventh win at the Hungaroring to extend his record tally.
