Mercedes engine issue hits Bottas in Austria

Valtteri Bottas' Austrian Grand Prix weekend got off to a sluggish start as an oil leak kept him in the garage for the start of the first practice session in Spielberg. Bottas lost around half an hour of track-time, while he had to put in his previous spec engine.

It is unlikely that the issue will impact Bottas further into the weekend, provided Mercedes can fix the issue and put the new engine back into his car for qualifying and the race.

Mercedes was the last manufacturer to introduce a new engine in 2019, doing so in Canada.

After a slight delay, Bottas was back out and lapping among the front-runners, suggesting the incident had little impact on the Finn's focus.
