Ferrari's Mattia Binotto: We won today
His view is clear.
Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto made his feelings extremely clear after a five-second penalty cost Sebastian Vettel the Canadian Grand Prix, stating his belief that the Scuderia had won the race.
Vettel was issued with a penalty after losing control of his Ferrari and leaving the track, only to rejoin in front of Lewis Hamilton on the racing line, forcing the Brit to swerve to avoid a collision.
The race stewards' investigation found the German guilty and the five seconds he was punished as a result proved pivotal in handing the victory to Hamilton.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-race, Binotto was bullish, adding that he felt the team were the 'moral' winners.
He said: "If you look at the crowd, everybody believes that [it wasn't a penalty]. I don't think he [Vettel] had any bad intention at all. He stayed ahead the entire race and for us he is the moral winner.
"The season is not over and think we need to look at our own data too. He [Vettel] was driving at the limit each lap and each corner and when he came back on the track he had no grip, there was nothing he could do.
Everybody will calm down in a couple of hours. We need to look at the weaknesses and the strengths. But we won today. I think honestly we were the fastest on track today, and that's important."
