Formula 1 commercial chief Sean Bratches has confirmed that the sport’s organisers would be “highly interested” in adding another Chinese Grand Prix to a future calendar in addition to the race in Shanghai, with the new event being a street race.

The Chinese GP has been part of the current F1 calendar for 15 years since the construction of the purpose-built Shanghai International Circuit, but with Liberty Media looking to add more races going forward, the sport could be heading to two destinations in China.

“In terms of interest, we would be highly interested in a street race,” Bratches told AFP.

"It would be a nice juxtaposition to the purpose-built, extraordinary facility that we have here. Our intent is to bring our show to the people.

"There's meetings set up in each with government officials to talk about identifying a second city to host a grand prix.

"We think there's an opportunity to grow from that perspective.”

AFP reports that Beijing is currently one of the front runners to host another race, but F1 is allegedly in talks with five other cities over a potential deal.

Another race in China would increase F1’s exposure in Asia, with a Vietnam GP already confirmed for next year’s calendar.
