Mercedes controversy adds to Esports intrigue
Mercedes took a clean sweep of victories in the second event of the F1 Esports Pro Series, with reigning champion Brendon Leigh claiming a controversial victory at Paul Ricard before adding another win at Silverstone before teammate Daniel Bereznay took his first triumph at Spa-Francorchamps.
Leigh ended Wednesday's running with four wins to his name from the opening six races.
His first triumph of the night came in contentious fashion as he forced Toro Rosso's Frederik Rasmussen off the track on the penultimate lap.
Leigh was given a penalty which dropped him to sixth, but a successful appeal reinstated his win.
Rasmussen complained: "It should have been a penalty for sure, I'm not a fan of dirty driving."
The pair clashed again in the next race at Silverstone, but Leigh came out on top more fairly on that occasion.
Once again Rasmussen took the fight to a Mercedes driver at Spa, overtaking pole-sitter Bereznay in the closing stages of the race, but the Hungarian hit back late on to seal his first win in the world championships.
Leigh leads the drivers' standings with four races to go, while Mercedes are in a dominant position in the team championship.
