F1 Results Today: Max Verstappen struggles as Red Bull star causes red flag after Imola crash

Max Verstappen struggled on Friday at the Imola Grand Prix, as a Red Bull star suffered a late crash at the end of FP2.

The Dutchman had no answer for McLaren in Emilia Romagna, and was even bested by an Alpine and Mercedes during the second practice session.

Red Bull junior and Racing Bulls star Isack Hadjar brought out a red flag towards the end of FP2, after he spun at Turn 3 and hit the tyre barrier where he got stuck in the gravel.

In FP1, Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen were beaten by a shock F1 star, as the two McLarens were once again on top in Emilia Romagna, whilst Carlos Sainz set the third fastest time.

Hamilton complained midway through the first session that he was struggling with his brakes, claiming over team radio that the 'car doesn't want to stop', but managed to recover into the top 10 ahead of team-mate Charles Leclerc in P5.

Leclerc also joined in with Hamilton's complaints and reported brake issues in FP2, where they both bemoaned their inability to brake properly.

Elsewhere, Gabriel Bortoleto caused a late red flag in FP1 when he lost his Sauber on the kerb at Rivazza 1, although still emerged with an impressive P9 finish in the session.

A familiar face also returned on Friday, with Franco Colapinto back in the cockpit for the Imola Grand Prix with Alpine, after he was announced as Jack Doohan's replacement for the next five rounds at least.

Alpine also lost team principal Oliver Oakes during the break between races, but this hasn't hampered their performance on track with Pierre Gasly setting the sixth fastest time in FP1 and third fastest in FP2.
