Ferrari 'ambitions reduced' after one point return from two weekends - Binotto
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has conceded the team has 'reduced its ambitions' after registering just a single point from the two races in Bahrain.
After the Turkish Grand Prix, a race that took place in wet, treacherously slippery conditions, Sebastian Vettel finished third to score his first podium of the season with team-mate Charles Leclerc following him home in fourth.
The return of 27 points was the teams highest of the year and the return pushed the Scuderia seemingly into the fight for third in the constructors' standings, trailing fifth-place Renault by just six points although still 39 off Racing Point who occupied third at the time.
In the two races since, Racing Point has opened the gap to 63 points, while Renault, still in fifth, enjoy a 41 point margin.
Leclerc's 10th place in the Bahrain Grand Prix has been the team's only highlight of the Bahrain double-header with the Monegasque retiring on lap one of the Sakhir Grand Prix, while Vettel finished both races although in 13th and 12th respectively.
“The race itself was very chaotic," said Binotto, reflecting on the events of last weekend.
"I think when that happens somehow there are sometimes opportunities but finally we didn’t get any points which for the constructors’ championship is very bad and now it is really two races that we are not scoring points.
"If I look at the constructors’ championship now, our ambitions are certainly reduced compared to where they were after the race in Turkey.”
With only one race remaining, Ferrari is on course to record its lowest constructors' championship finish since 1980, a year in which the team finished 10th.
