Norris praise for 'more open' Formula 1
Lando Norris says that Formula 1 opening up the radio communications has allowed fans to see the relationships within teams.
Through F1TV, fans are able to access every radio message made during a race, access that Norris is pleased has been granted.
"It should be more open though, or it is open now, for everyone to hear what goes on behind the scenes, talking to our engineers and everything," Norris told Will Buxton on Instagram live. "Like with the F1TV, you get to tune into the actual drivers and hear a bit more about what goes on, not just the ones that are shown on the actual TV.
"It’s good that it’s opening up more into that side of things and people get to hear more of what is going on."
During the esports events that have taken place in the lockdown, drivers have been able to communicate directly with each other. Something that would never be practical in the real world, the more relaxed competition has shown fans the bonds and friendships between drivers away from the tracks.
"It’s weird," added Norris. "It’s different but it’s more relaxed obviously, because we’re all in the Discord and we’re chatting together which is the opposite to a normal race. You’re all just speaking to your own race engineers in a race and it’s super-serious whereas this is a lot more relaxed and fun, and you can take the mickey out of each other a lot more.
"It’s different but it’s cool and I think it’s good for not just us, but you guys and the fans who want to watch all of us carry on racing and having fun."
