Max Verstappen to race today in Australian Supercars All Stars Eseries
Max Verstappen will take part in the next round of the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries, competing in an Aston Martin Red Bull Racing liveried Holden ZB Commodore.
Having competed in various esports events during the prolonged off-season, Verstappen says that he is excited to race alongside the Australian tin-top drivers.
“I’m looking forward to the race," said Verstappen. "It’s going to be a challenge as it’s not a car I’ve driven a lot on the sim, but they are pretty cool to watch in real life. We always race with Supercars in Melbourne so it’s going to be interesting to see how I get on against all the regular drivers.
“I’ve tried the Supercar now a few times on iRacing and it’s a very tricky car to get right. I’m looking forward to racing alongside my mate Shane, or Pastor, as I call him – he’s a top shunter on the sim! (laughs) We race online a lot together so hopefully we can do well for Red Bull and it should be a bit of fun racing against the other V8 drivers as well.”
Unlike other championships, Supercars were able to convince all of their drivers to take part in an esports championship, but the result was not quite as had been expected.
The decision to enter came after regular season Supercars driver Will Davison commented on an Instagram post from Verstappen, suggesting, "I reckon you should come do a guest appearance in our Supercars Championship E Series mate #carnage."
Taking place on the iRacing platform, a system that Verstappen knows well, the races will be held at Wednesday with two taking place at Silverstone and two at Barcelona - the limited number of Australian circuits on the system preventing the championship from frequenting its usual venues.
