No rush in Hamilton contract negotiations at Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton says that there is no rush on sorting his Mercedes contract as speculation continues regards his future.
Speaking in an exclusive video segment with Sky Sports F1, Hamilton confirmed that the negotiations are still yet to begin.
"We haven't sat down and talked yet," said Hamilton. "it's crazy because there is all of this talk in the media and everything.
"I have a certain approach normally, in a way that I don't stress. I trust Toto and we have that trust between us. We've told each other what our goals are and what our aims are and our commitments.
"So I don't ever feel there's necessarily always a rush. Sometimes Toto is like, 'Is everything okay?' so we just always keep the channel open, and I'm sure in the near future we will start to sit down, but I don't feel stressed."
Team principal Toto Wolff added that he and Hamilton had shared a few jokes over the 'made up' figures mentioned in the media.
"I texted Lewis the other day, I think a week ago or ten days, and I'm reading all these comments in the press about our negotiations, that Lewis is asking for much money. We have never talked about it. It's all made up," said Wolff.
"Then I said, 'Maybe we should sit down one day and have the chat'. It's about finding a day where we spend a few hours together and that's what we've done in the past."
"We have that respect where I know the contribution that Lewis brings to the team and as a brand, and you always need to respect that."
Hamilton revealed that his previous extension had been negotiated in a ten-hour session between Wolff and himself where the two had talked while sharing a pizza.
