Daniel Ricciardo 2019 ratings Part 3

Singapore GP (Qual: DSQ – Race: 14th) 6/10

Having started from the back he showed his usual heroics to fight through the field, then collided with Giovinazzi and fell back down it.

Russian GP (Qual: 10th – Race: DNF) 5/10

Dare we say that the sheen is starting to fall away from the Honey Badger? A mixture of frustration from a lack of decent finishes and the lack of ability in the Renault compared to the Red Bull is seeing his trademark late-braking manoeuvres more often than not coming a cropper. Contact in turn four and another DNF cap a disappointing Russian Grand Prix for him.

Japanese GP (Qual: 16th - Race: 7th) 7/10

Sliced through the field impressively, including a number of late moves to pick up two extra places after being freed by team-mate Hulkenberg to attack the cars of Perez and Gasly that the German had found too tough to pass. After promising he'd do differently over team radio, Ricciardo was true to his word and picked up bonus points through Leclerc's penalty.

Mexican GP (Qual: 13th - Race: 8th) 7/10

Ricciardo made hard tyres last for a mammoth 51 laps to make progress from 13th on the grid and might have finished seventh had the postman been around to deliver after he licked the stamp and sent one up the inside of Sergio Perez late on.

United States GP (Qual: 9th - Race: 6th) 7/10

Although overtakes are Ricciardo's signature move, extracting tyre life is fast becoming his calling card in the Renault and another nicely judged one-stopper saw the Australian clamber into a 'best of the rest' berth.

Brazilian GP (Qual: 12th - Race: 6th) 6/10

Magnussen fans might have felt a little aggrieved at seeing Ricciardo end up so high in the order, having messed up the Dane's race with a ill-judged overtake, which cost the Australian a front wing and a five-second penalty. It forced him onto a strategy that would be pretty perfectly timed along with the late madness, with the Ferrari crash and Hamilton's penalty all moving the Australian up the order significantly.

Abu Dhabi GP (Qual: 8th - Race: 11th) 6/10

Followed Carlos Sainz's lead in taking a later stop to charge back through the field on fresher tyres and but it did not quite pay off.
