Formula 1's future at Monza officially secured

Formula 1 has confirmed that the Italian Grand Prix will remain on the schedule, at Monza, for the next five years at least.

The news had widely expected to arrive in the build-up to this year's event at Monza and was duly confirmed at an event in Milan's Piazza del Duomo to celebrate Ferrari's 90th year in motorsport and the 90th edition of the Italian GP.

Monza has hosted more grands prix than any venue on the Formula 1 calendar. This weekend's event is the 69th in its history and it has only failed to feature in one world championship season, 1980, when the race was held at Imola.

F1 CEO Chase Carey said: "This is one of four Grands Prix that were part of the 1950 championship and still features in the calendar and along with the British Grand Prix, it is the only one to have been held every year since then.

"History, speed and passion are words that motorsport fans associate with Monza. The feeling one gets at this Grand Prix is truly unique, as is the circuit’s distinctive podium.

"This five year deal means that another part of the jigsaw for the Formula 1 of the future, is now in place."
