Racing Point team name confirmed

Formula 1's official entry list for the 2019 season has been released, confirming that the team formerly known as Force India will be Racing Point F1 Team this year. Attempts to change the moniker had been investigated by Lawrence Stroll's team, but the chassis name will match the consortium that bought the squad last year.

The entry list also confirms that Alfa Romeo will take on the chassis name of Sauber, although the Swiss name remains listed as the team's company name.

Force India fell into administration last year after action taken by their driver Sergio Perez, with a Stroll-led consortium taking over soon after.

The move forced Racing Point Force India to begin as a new entity, stripping the team of its constructors' championship points.

Lance Stroll has arrived at the team to partner Perez, leaving Esteban Ocon as an unfortunate casualty of the driver merry-go-round. The Frenchman will spend 2019 as Mercedes' reserve driver.

Racing Point will reveal its 2019 challenger at the Canadian International Autoshow next week, where it is anticipated that the team's previous striking pink livery will remain in place, despite the other team changes.

Sponsor BWT, whose branding had resulted in the pink look, remain on board for 2019.
