Verstappen looking to change fortune at Monaco GP
Max Verstappen says he is looking forward to the historically “special” Monaco Grand Prix next weekend, and is hoping to change his fortunes on the track as up until now he hasn’t had much success at the Circuit de Monaco.
The Dutchman has competed in four championship races in Monaco in his career, but two have been retirements, one was a fifth-placed finish, and in last year’s event he finished in ninth, with team-mate Daniel Ricciardo winning in the same car.
Mercedes have dominated so far in 2019 with five one-two finishes in a row, with Verstappen viewed as the current most likely contender to potentially compete against Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, whom he trails in the driver rankings in third.
He wants to finally break the streak of poor outings at Monaco in order to do so.
“It was great to be back on stage in Barcelona, and I am already looking forward to Monaco,” he said.
“It is a special and hectic weekend. It is a street circuit with a lot of history, and it has not been the best circuit for me in recent years, but hopefully, I can change that this time.”
Verstappen has lived in Monaco since 2015, and is looking forward to the rarity of sleeping in his own bed during a race weekend.
“I live in Monaco and it is nice to sleep in my own apartment instead of in a hotel,” he added.
“A few friends and family will also be there and I look forward to meeting them and having a good weekend.”
