Lewis Hamilton hails Mercedes' 'history in the making'
Lewis Hamilton hailed his team's 'history in the making' after Mercedes landed an unprecedented one-two once again, as the Brit produced a superb display to land the chequered flag in Barcelona.
Hamilton cruised to a comfortable victory, flying off the line faster than team-mate Valtteri Bottas to move into the lead and there he remained for the full race, seeing off the threat of a safety car incident to romp home.
Bottas finished in second position, ensuring five one-two's out of five for Mercedes in a season where they are increasingly making the rest of their rivals irrelevant.
Hamilton could not hide his delight at his team's dominance this season, saying post-race: "I put it down to this incredible team. This is history in the making to have five one-twos. Very proud to be a part of that. Very proud of everyone's hard work at the track.
"It's definitely been a hard first four races. It's a great car but we don't always get along. I was delighted to settle our differences and I'm really happy for the whole team.
It was an interesting start, we were very very close. I saw the red car go round the both of us. I had no idea whether they were further ahead, but it wasn't a replay of Baku, at least."
Hamilton also commented on his blistering lap after the restart which saw him pick up his first fastest lap point of the season.
He added: "We'd just had a pitstop so I wanted to keep the tyres warm. I knew those first couple of laps on these new tyres would be our best chance [to get that fastest lap].
"I've not had fastest lap all year, so it was about time."
