Lauda delivers video update with Mercedes

Mercedes have shared a video update from Niki Lauda, with the Austrian looking in fine shape as he continues to recover from a lung transplant. The three-time world champion was on typical form as he hailed the Silver Arrows 2018 double title triumph – a fifth in a row.

Lauda spent almost three months in intensive care after undergoing emergency surgery which doctors believe saved him from certain death.

The three-time world champion fell ill while on holiday in Spain and was later taken to hospital in Vienna, where he underwent the operation.

Doctors later revealed that Lauda would have died within days if he had not undergone the transplant.

It was reported that Lauda was determined to make one appearance before the end of the season at this weekend's Abu Dhabi GP, but Red Bull chief and close friend Helmut Marko revealed on Friday that he doesn't quite have the energy yet.

However, Lauda was well enough to deliver an update from Vienna, which was shared across Mercedes' social media channels.
