Maldonado to contest Historic Monaco GP

Former Williams driver Pastor Maldonado will return to the Monte Carlo streets in the Historic Monaco Grand Prix later this year.

In recent years, the historic race meeting has alternated years with Formula E but as the coronavirus pandemic forced its cancellation, as well as the cancellation of the Formula 1 event, last year, the principality is hosting all three events in a month-long period starting at the end of April.

The Historic Grand Prix begins the action and will take place between April 23-25.

The confirmed entry list revealed Maldonado, who competed in F1 from 2011-'15 with Williams and Lotus, will compete in the 'A Series' driving a 1937 Maserati 4CM.

In the category, one exclusively pre-second world war cars, the 4CM is the most modern car on the grid with the oldest machinery a 1925 Bugatti 35.

F1 veterans Jean Alesi and René Arnoux are also set to compete, driving a pair of 1974 Ferrari 312B3 cars in the 'F Series' - which is for F1 machinery from between 1973-'76.

Between them, the duo made 350 grands prix race starts with Alesi scoring one win to the seven of Arnoux.

Jean-Denis Deletraz, who made three race starts across the 1994 and '95 seasons for Larrousse and Pacific Team Lotus will drive a 1980 ATS D4 in 'G Series' - a category for cars from between 1977-'80, the most modern class to feature on the weekend.
