Silverstone renames part of its track the 'Hamilton Straight' to honour seven-time champion

Silverstone has renamed part of its circuit after Lewis Hamilton following his record-equalling achievement in winning a seventh Formula 1 world title.

The International Pits Straight, that is flanked by the Silverstone Wing, is to now be known as Hamilton Straight. It becomes the only part of the track to be named after a driver.

British Racing Drivers' Club president David Coulthard said: “I was delighted, in my capacity as president of the BRDC, to share this news with Lewis.

"It is the first time in Silverstone’s history that a part of the circuit has been named after any individual.

"Lewis has become a huge part of this history and the directors of the Club and I felt there was no better way to mark this than to rename the iconic pits straight in recognition of his record-breaking achievements.”

The Hamilton Straight has witnessed six of the seven home wins achieved by the 35-year-old who has been able to celebrate his victories with the fans on that particular part of the track.
