Joey Logano out of NASCAR postseason spot after costly Texas wreck

The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series standings look bad for Joey Logano after Texas

Joey Logano dropped entirely out of a NASCAR Cup Series postseason qualification spot on Sunday, thanks to a rough afternoon at Texas.

The Team Penske star came into the day 15th in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings after an up and down start to the year, and got into an unusual wreck on pit road when he came across a stationary Cole Custer.

The impact ruined the left front of his No. 22 Ford, ending his race in bizarre fashion after 95 laps. With no top-ten stage finish, he left the weekend with a single point for 37th place on the day – meaning he falls behind Austin Cindric and Chase Briscoe and into 17th on points.

It wasn't just Logano having a bad day through, with three drivers who entered the weekend top ten in points heading back to the garage; namely Christopher Bell (38th, 1 point), Kyle Larson (34th, 3 points, running over 80 laps down at the chequered), and Ty Gibbs (36th, 8 points).

Multiple drivers take advantage of Larson misfortune

Of course, when people fall in the standings, others must rise. Gibbs and Larson's fifth and sixth places in the standings now belong to Chris Buescher and Carson Hocevar, both of whom finished the race in the top seven.

At the very top, the gap to Tyler Reddick closed...but not by much. In fact, Denny Hamlin got exactly one point closer to the 23XI Racing star after both finished in the top five with a smattering of stage points apiece.
