Fittipaldi to drive for Haas in Mexico and Abu Dhabi

Pietro Fittipaldi will drive for Haas in two first practice sessions over the closing four races of the current F1 season.

As mandated under the regulations, all 10 teams have to run a rookie in FP1 at two grands prix, with each of its race drivers stepping aside.

A rookie is defined as a young driver who has competed in two races or less.

Fittipaldi is still eligible as he has competed in two grands prix for Haas, with the 26-year-old Brazilian standing in for Romain Grosjean in the final two races of the 2020 season following the Frenchman's fireball crash in the Bahrain GP that year.

Fittipaldi, who has long been Haas' reserve driver, will replace Kevin Magnussen in FP1 in the Mexican Grand Prix and Mick Schumacher in first practice for the final race of the year in Abu Dhabi.

Fittipaldi said: "I'm very happy to be driving the VF-22, and this time during race weekends - FP1 in Mexico and Abu Dhabi.

"I'm grateful for this opportunity and I'm looking forward to putting in some comprehensive running for the team."

Fittipaldi drove this year's Haas in pre-season testing as a replacement for the axed Nikita Mazepin and prior to Magnussen's re-appointment.
