McLaren 'pragmatic' after scoreless Miami

Andreas Seidl has reflected "pragmatically" on McLaren's second scoreless weekend of the season after Lando Norris came together with Pierre Gasly in Miami.

McLaren bounced back from a dreadful season-opening race weekend in Bahrain with three consecutive points scores, including Norris' podium in Imola.

But a clumsy crash for the Briton ended the team's hope of keeping its scoring streak alive with team-mate Daniel Ricciardo stuck in a DRS train in the lower order.

"I see it quite pragmatically. It doesn't matter who is guilty. The result is zero points, and it's a racing incident," explained team principal Seidl after the stewards' deemed no investigation into the incident was necessary.

"Unfortunately, we simply didn't maximise everything, and we had the incident with Lando, which is why we scored zero points and is obviously disappointing."

Norris was "in position" to score

Although Norris was 13th when he retired from the Miami race, McLaren's strategy could have seen the Briton finish inside the points had it not been for the incident.

Tyre life was a key part of the race and by extending their first stint, Norris would have been in with a chance to challenge.

"I think Lando was still in a position [to score] because we played the long game in stopping late and then having the benefit in the end on the harder tyres," added Seidl.

"But unfortunately the racing incident took away any chances."
