Perez cleared of failing to slow for yellow flags

The FIA has taken no further action against Sergio Perez for failing to slow for yellow flags during Australian Grand Prix qualifying.

The Red Bull driver qualified third at the revamped Albert Park circuit behind team-mate Max Verstappen and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, despite showing early signs of a pole challenge himself.

But the Mexican was called into the stewards’ office after the qualifying session for allegedly failing to slow during yellow flags in Q2.

The stewards' report read: "As PER approached turn 11, a single yellow flag was displayed for a car in the escape road.

"PER was warned by his team on the radio at the same time the signals were displayed at the corner. Compared to his previous lap, he lifted 70 meters earlier, braked 50 meters earlier, and carried 14kph less speed into the corner.

"As a result of these actions, the Stewards conclude that PER acted appropriately to the situation and take no further action."

Team principal Christian Horner had earlier told Sky Sports F1 car telemetry would prove Perez's innocence.

“We had a good look at it and passed the info on to race control,” he said.

"“In the data we can clearly see a lift and it’s cost Checo at least three to four tenths. It’s very clear in the data.”
