Aston Martin 'must avoid corporate structure at all costs' to deliver F1 title goal
New Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has insisted the organisation must avoid working in a "corporate manner" in order to deliver on its five-year plan.
Last year owner Lawrence Stroll set a mid-decade target of competing for F1 titles as the Silverstone-based team undergoes an upscaling.
A new state-of-the-art factory is currently being constructed, whilst the appointment of Krack is the headline name of a series of signings as Stroll aims to push Aston Martin to the front.
Krack, who was involved in BMW's F1 programme in the 2000s and Porsche's World Endurance Championship tilt, has stressed Aston Martin's position is different as it is not an OEM [original equipment manufacturer].
Put to him that five-year plans do not always work out, with Renault used as an example, Krack said: "I agree that five-year plans don't always come to success.
"There can only be one winner, that is true and you also very often have, as we have now, disruption with a new set of regulations where you will have to readjust.
"But on the other hand, what is a little bit different to the team you have mentioned is that we are not an OEM.
"We are a lean management structure, we can decide very, very quickly and we are very flexible. So we have big possibilities and we have a quick decision path.
"Obviously, you cannot plan success, this is clear, but you can put the things in place to achieve it."
Referencing his previous role with BMW, Krack added: "We also had a five-year plan at the time and it was handled in a very corporate manner which we must avoid at any cost.
"So I think we have everything at this stage that we need but we need to make the right decisions.
"It doesn't come by itself, that we have to be aware of. It is hard work over many, many days and weeks."
