FIA to 'improve' rules after Hamilton-Verstappen controversy

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has confirmed F1's governing body will "analyse" and "make the necessary improvements" to the regulations after the controversial Abu Dhabi season finale.

Lewis Hamilton missed out on a record-breaking eighth world title in controversial fashion after a late safety car and its application in the Yas Marina race.

After electing not to continue with its appeal against FIA decisions to dismiss Mercedes' protests in Abu Dhabi, team principal Toto Wolff stated he would hold the FIA "accountable" for its actions following a "clarification exercise".

Speaking to Spanish media, Ben Sulayem said: "I have studied all the facts.

"We have a dynamic sport and the rules also have to be dynamic. Rules should always be improved.

"The development of motorsport is going very fast and you have to adapt to that, but being proactive rather than reactive.

"Decisions will be made to move forward, without pressure from anyone. But that does not mean that we are not going to analyse the rules and make the necessary improvements.

"The rules are written by humans, not by gods, so they have to be evolved by men as well."
