Mercedes decide NOT to appeal Hamilton disqualification
Mercedes has confirmed it will not be appealing the disqualification handed out to Lewis Hamilton from the qualifying session for the São Paulo Grand Prix.
Hamilton set the fastest lap in Friday's session and was due to start at the front for the sprint race that then sets the grid for the main event on Sunday.
Following qualifying, however, Mercedes' DRS on Hamilton's car was found to be illegal after an inspection by technical delegate Jo Bauer.
After a stewards' hearing, Mercedes was found not to have deliberately flouted the rules, but as was stated by the team, "something went wrong" with regard to this particular rear wing in question given no issues had previously occurred.
If Mercedes had appealed, Hamilton would have started at the front for the sprint, but according to a team spokesperson, to have done so "would have put all results this weekend at risk".
The Team will not be appealing Lewis’ disqualification from Quali.
