FIA shrug off Alonso "nationality" claims
FIA race director Michael Masi has shrugged off Fernando Alonso's suggestions race stewards favour certain drivers because of nationality.
Lando Norris escaped punishment at the Russian Grand Prix for crossing the white pit lane entry line, despite the infringement being regularly punished in recent years.
Spaniard Alonso, who had earlier this year called himself "stupid" for being overtaken on lap one of the Austrian GP when staying on-track, said ahead of the race in Turkey “let’s see the next one that crosses the white line on pit entry, let’s see what nationality he is and what penalty he will get.”
Asked what he made of Alonso's comments, Masi explained: "I don't even engage in that side of it.
"Every driver is entitled to their own views and comments, either internally or to the media.
"The rules are applied equally for everyone. It is probably one of those where he is entitled to his view but we judge each and every incident looking at the actual incident and what occurs."
Masi has repeatedly insisted on the importance of using the race stewards as independent judiciaries with no prejudice from any angle from outside the stewarding room.
On whether Alonso's words could prove to influence future decisions, the Australian said: "No, not at all.
"We are very fortunate that we have a very good group of stewards throughout the year and I can tell you that it does not place any additional pressure whatsoever on them."
