Mercedes deny Rosberg's Russell Netflix rumour

Mercedes has strongly denied a rumour shared by Nico Rosberg that Netflix was summoned to witness George Russell's Mercedes contract signing after the Dutch Grand Prix.

Russell is expected to be confirmed as Lewis Hamilton's team-mate for 2022 over the next few days, replacing Valtteri Bottas who is poised to join Alfa Romeo.

After Hamilton and Bottas finished second and third to Max Verstappen at Zandvoort, Rosberg informed Sky Sports F1 of a paddock rumour that had reached his ear.

"By the way, on George Russell, I've got a rumour," said Rosberg.

"A certain streaming service was called into the office of Toto to film the signatures.

"So I don't know, that's the rumour that is circulating in the paddock."

Russell signing for Mercedes will likely serve as the conclusion to a fourth-season episode of the docu-series 'Drive to Survive'.

GPFans Global has learned, however, the rumour is false, with Wolff completing his media duties after the race and then immediately departing the circuit.

Earlier in the weekend, Russell commented: "I know where I'll be driving next year," fanning speculation an announcement could be imminent.
