Wolff on rain delay - Racing "too dangerous through Eau Rouge and Raidillon"
Toto Wolff insisted the decision to delay the Belgian Grand Prix was correct as the weather conditions made Eau Rouge and Raidillion "too dangerous".
The start procedure was suspended after just two laps behind the safety car at Spa-Francorchamps as heavy rain led to poor visibility, with the race having initially been delayed by 25 minutes.
The red flag period is ongoing although the FIA has cited force majeure to suspend the race clock in order to avoid the event being timed out by the three-hour window dictated by the sporting regulations.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 during the delay, Wolff said: "I have the same information as everybody else and in my personal opinion, if it continues like that you cannot start.
"It is just too dangerous through Eau Rouge, Raidillon and on the straight.
"From the second or third car you have almost no visibility so as much as I love racing and also the risk of racing, this is a step too far."
On whether the race would see a two-lap sprint to reach a classification, Wolff warned: "I think the two laps are the ones that are most dangerous actually so I don't think that is going to happen."
