Hamilton "gutted" for Vettel following Aston Martin driver's disqualification
Lewis Hamilton has conceded to feeling gutted for Sebastian Vettel following his F1 rival's disqualification from the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Hamilton and Vettel finished third and second respectively at the Hungaroring, only the second time the duo had shared a podium together since towards the end of 2019.
But after the race, the FIA was unable to retrieve a litre of fuel from Vettel's AMR21 as required by the regulations, only managing 0.3 litres, resulting in disqualification.
Aston Martin is currently "analysing data" to determine whether it will formally appeal the stewards' decision after initially notifying the FIA of its intent to do as per the rules.
Reflecting on Vettel's punishment, via his Instagram, Hamilton said: "I'm gutted for Seb.
"It is always an honour to be on the podium with you and you deserved this result.
"What you are doing at your new team is amazing, keep fighting and pushing. See you on track soon."
Hamilton - "ready for some rest"
Hamilton, meanwhile, has also confirmed himself as "just fine" after experiencing blurred vision and dizziness following the race.
The 36-year-old was pictured on the podium exhausted and seemingly struggling for breath, leading to a visit to the doctor.
In the post-race press conference, which Hamilton attended late, the seven-time champion suggested he may be suffering from long Covid after being hit with the coronavirus late last year that forced him out of the Sakhir Grand Prix.
Providing an update, Hamilton said: "I fought my heart out, we gave it everything, and all things considered, feel pretty good about P2 in Hungary.
"To everyone who checked in, thank you. I’m just fine - ready for some rest."
