Verstappen not a fan of 'very ugly' halo device
Max Verstappen has admitted that he is not looking forward to getting behind the wheel of his new 2018 vehicle with the halo attached, as he thinks the device is 'very ugly', whilst also lamenting the weight of the safety frame which will subsequently make the car heavier.
The Dutchman will once again ride with Red Bull this campaign and will hope to add his tally of Grand Prix victories and potentially challenge for the world championship.
Once certainty is that he will have to contend with the new halo device, and it is safe to say he is not a fan.
"The halo - that will be very ugly," Verstappen told Red Bull in a pre-season video.
"I am not looking forward to that. In general I hope the car will look great and hopefully it is fast.
"Hopefully it is a good step forward and we have got straight away a good car for the beginning of the year, so we are not really chasing, like we did last year. That is the most important for us.”
The new weight limit for the upcoming 2018 cars is 734kg which means that teams will have had trouble adding in the new device, which is heavy on its own. Verstappen thinks he could see more issues than other drivers as he is taller than most.
"Because the halo is quite heavy, it will be more than six kilos, it is definitely not favourable for me,” the Dutchman continued.
“Being a taller driver and also a bit of a heavier driver than most, it is definitely not ideal. But I am not going to adjust my training for it, because otherwise I won't feel well during the races."
