Horner: Reverse layout races 'a massive amount of work'

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has outlined several reasons why it would be almost impossible to race the opposite way around Formula 1 circuits.

Horner says that, while the Red Bull owned Austrian Grand Prix venue, the Red Bull Ring, considered the possibility of racing using a reverse layout, it would ultimately have been too much work for a one-off event.

"We looked at this in Austria, but the amount of changes you'd have to make from a safety point of view, because all the barriers are effectively in the wrong places," Horner told the 'Talking Bull' podcast.

"I mean, technically you could do it, but from a safety point of view, it would be a massive amount of work to put the gravel traps in the right places and so on.

"But Austria would probably be one of the more straightforward ones."

Max Verstappen added that he would have been up for the challenge at certain circuits.

Team-mate Alex Albon was also keen, but conceded his team boss had a valid point with the amount of work that would be required to stage the race.

"If we could have backwards tracks, I think it would be quite fun," said Albon. "If we can't do as many tracks as we want to but, as you [Horner] said, I guess it's too much hard work."
