Hamilton: 'If Formula 1 becomes 'FE1', I think it's got a really bright future'
Hamilton supports the idea of 'FE1' as the Mercedes Formula 1 team announce the target of being net-carbon neutral by the end of the 2020 season.
Engines in F1 have changed dramatically in recent times and things will again change in 2021 when new regulations will again take hold and Hamilton highlighted the improvements in efficiency that recent changes have made.
"We've gone from a V8 and now use a third less fuel than before," said Hamilton. "The developments that are coming forward in the future are going to be really, really interesting.
"If Formula 1 will be 'FE1' at some stage - probably not in my racing career, but beyond, for sure - I think it's got a really bright future."
Speaking alongside Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, Hamilton reiterated that Formula One is the perfect proving ground for new road technologies, but said that Formula E also has a part to play - the all electric championship focused on promoting green, renewable technologies.

"This is the perfect test bench for pushing technology and developments," continued Hamilton. "It really is the best lab that you could possibly have.
"I like to think that we've played a serious role in what you see in today's cars and the technology that's now in Formula E. As we continue to develop and push that technology forward, it will improve for the road cars."
