Marko says Ferrari punishment is no punishment

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko says that Ferrari will only gain a further advantage after the FIA reached a controversial 'settlement' following an investigation into their 2019 power unit.

Seven teams protested the undisclosed 'settlement' between the FIA and Ferrari, including Red Bull, and the head of the Red Bull driver development program told Auto Motor und Sport that the FIA have been far to lenient on the Scuderia.

"It is a double-digit million amount less for finishing third instead of second," said Marko. "It's not just the distribution, but it's in our sponsorship contracts as well.

"If they really cheated, 10 or 20 million would be far too cheap."

As part of the 'settlement' Ferrari have agreed to complete research into alternative fuels on behalf of the FIA, but Marko says that this would, in effect, give Ferrari an unfair advantage in the future.

"If Ferrari now does research into alternative fuels for the FIA, that gives them an advantage of experience over everyone else," Marko continued.

Speaking separately to Auto Bild, Marko hinted that Red Bull could take up their own legal case against Ferrari.

"This time, we have joined the campaign initiated by Mercedes," said Marko. "But in the future, we will consider our options and uphold our rights in our own ways."
