Trouble at Willams as they lose major sponsor

Williams will be on the search for fresh investment after it was reported this week that they have lost a major sponsor in Rexona.

On the Formula 1 track, things couldn’t really have been worse for Williams last season as they limped their way through 2019 as the clear worst team on the grid. Now, more bad news comes their way behind the scenes after the deodorant manufacturer severed ties, as reported by Sportowe Fakty.

This news comes after another huge sponsor, Polish oil company Orlen, left to become the title sponsor of Alfa Romeo after Robert Kubica switched teams to become a reserve driver for Alfa, having previously made his return from injury to the sport with Williams last season.

It came as a raft of other minor sponsors ended their partnerships with Williams, too, including software company Symantec, the blockchain platform Omnitude and Tata Communications.

The news represented a major dent in funds for Williams as they reportedly received 15m euros a year in sponsorship from Rexona, according to Spanish publication AS.

It isn’t complete doom and gloom for the team, however, as they recently recruited rookie driver Nicholas Latifi to partner George Russell, with the Canadian bringing significant financial backing to the squad via his father, businessman Michael Latifi.
