Gasly, Kvyat went to Red Bull too early - Toro Rosso
Franz Tost believes promotion to Red Bull arrived too soon for both Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat, a partnership the Toro Rosso team principal wants to retain next year.
While changes are likely to be afoot at the Red Bull junior team with a name change to Alpha Tauri in the pipeline, Tost is keen to see consistency in the driver line-up, with changes having been made to the Red Bull teams' line-ups in three of the last four seasons.
In 2016, Kvyat and Max Verstappen were swapped, while the Russian's continued poor form and Carlos Sainz jumping ship to Renault saw four different drivers race for Toro Rosso in 2017, with Brendon Hartley and Gasly debuting late in the season.
Gasly was promoted to Red Bull for the start of 2019 but his form never picked up and rookie Alexander Albon took his spot in the top team.
Red Bull boss team principal Christian Horner has said the seat alongside Verstappen is Albon's to lose, a situation Tost is happy with.
The German told AutoHebdo of potentially managing Kvyat and Gasly in 2020: "It makes my life a lot easier because they already know a lot, I don't have to teach them anything.
"Maybe they went to Red Bull a little too early?
"I often say that I find it ideal to work with a driver over a three-year period.
"We'll see what Red Bull decides for next year; both are very fast and we are very satisfied with their work.
"Personally, I hope that Daniil and Pierre will continue with us in 2020.
"The choice should be announced at the end of October, after the Mexican Grand Prix."
